Denver Airport Opens New 39-Gate Terminal Expansion

Denver International just opened its massive Gate Expansion Project—39 new gates and significantly more capacity at one of America’s busiest hubs. The $1.5 billion project took four years and positions Denver for continued growth.

Expanded Capacity

The new gates span Concourses B and C, with an elevated train connection cutting walking distances. United, Denver’s largest carrier, gets most of the new Concourse B gates, consolidating operations that were scattered across the airport.

Airport CEO Phil Washington called the expansion “critical infrastructure for Colorado’s economic future.” Denver ranks third-busiest in the country and has seen consistent passenger growth for the past decade.

Passenger Amenities

New terminal areas feature improved dining, charging stations at every seat, and floor-to-ceiling windows with mountain views. A new United Club adds 15,000 square feet of premium space.

Sustainable design elements include solar panels covering 40% of the new roof, rainwater collection, and energy-efficient HVAC. The airport aims for carbon neutrality by 2030.

Economic Impact

Construction employed over 3,000 workers at peak, and the completed facility supports an estimated 1,200 permanent jobs. Airlines using the new gates can schedule additional daily flights, connecting Denver to more destinations worldwide.

The expansion arrives as Denver-area population growth drives travel demand. Regional forecasts project passenger counts exceeding 100 million annually by 2035—capacity this project helps provide.
