TSA PreCheck just crossed 20 million active members—a milestone the agency credits to better processing times and more enrollment locations. The program keeps growing as air travel volumes blow past pre-pandemic levels.

Record Growth
The program added 3.2 million new members last year alone, driven by frustration with standard security lines that have grown longer as travel rebounds. PreCheck members typically clear in under five minutes, compared to 20-30 minutes in regular lanes during peak periods.
TSA Administrator David Pekoske called it “a validation of our risk-based security approach.” Members keep shoes, belts, and light jackets on while screening.
Expanded Access
TSA partnered with UPS Store locations nationwide for enrollment services, adding over 4,000 new enrollment points. Mobile units now visit large employers and community events.
Processing times dropped from 2-3 weeks to under 72 hours for most applicants. The $78 membership covers five years—roughly $1.30 per month.
Future Enhancements
TSA is piloting touchless identity verification at select airports using facial recognition to confirm PreCheck membership. The tech could eventually eliminate boarding passes at security.
The agency expects enrollment to hit 25 million by year-end as more travelers recognize the time savings. With airport congestion showing no signs of easing, PreCheck has become increasingly valuable for frequent flyers.
